Another New Hybrid Vehicle - This Time from Ford

There has been a gaping hole in the mid-sized car segment from Ford with the loss of the Taurus a few years back.Originally introduced in Ford’s 2006 line-up, the Fusion has new modications including the new Hybrid power plant.  Ford officially released the Fusion Hybrid recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2008.The new Ford Fusion recieves some of the best in-town gas mileage, that only a hybrid can get.The Environemetal Protection Agency gives the Fusion a rating of 41 Miles Per Gallon which is much better than the Toyota Camry, and even better than the fuel efficient Civic Hybrid; all this from a medium sized hybrid car.  The Fusion’s electric engine can power the car up to 47 MPH without any help from the gas engine.  Already there have been many automotive magazines that have employed this system to achieve much better MPG ratings then the EPA estimates.

New technology in the Hybrid allows the Fusion to teach drivers which driving style gets the best fuel economy. The Smart Gauge is a set of gauges built into the display. The driver is innundated with info from the dual data monitors next to the gauge cluster. The 1st display tells the power left in the battery packs and the remaining amount of fuel. The second gauge tells which mode the car in in; electric or hybrid, and it also shows the RPM’s.  The third screen displays engine and battery output power. The fourth screen displays data including power to the wheels and accessory power consumption. The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.Best fuel economy can be gauged through real time MPG information showing the driver which driving style is best.

The navigation system also houses the Hybrid Energy Flow Display.A couple of different things will be displayed like the charge of the car, the various hybrid power systems, the regenerative braking, and the boost.

Seperating itself from the hybrid pack, the Fusion has seats made from reclaimed fabric. The Prius and the Civic Hybrid are two of the most popular cars out today, its about time Ford designed a hybrid car.
